Clients: Various Residents of the Britannia Resort, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
This pending case concerns the prestigious Britannia development on Grand Cayman. I represent the strata corporations of Lions Court, Regents Court and Kings Court (comprising over 170 residences between them) and the residents of 18 individual villas, who have rights registered at the Cayman Islands Land Registry over the adjoining golf course and nearby beach club.
Subsidiaries of a large development corporation (Dart), which have bought the land on which those facilities stand, have brought a case arguing that those rights are not legally valid and should be removed from the Land Register.
A leading Cayman Islands law firm representing most of the affected residents, Walkers, has retained me as leading counsel for their defence of this claim.
This is expected to be heard in the Grand Court of the Cayman Islands, Financial Services Division, in November 2020.
The case has already attracted significant local interest: see
